WHY AM I IN PAIN?

PAIN - Spinal Subluxation

The best way to describe why people may experience pain is to liken the body’s nervous system to a house’s electrical system. The brain is the circuit breaker and the origin of the body’s electrical impulses with the spine as the main conduit to carry the vital electrical impulses to the remainder of the body for proper control of the systems and body function.

If no underlying condition or disease exists, then pain may be due to an interruption in the nervous system caused by a Spinal Subluxation.  Subluxation of the spine is a misalignment of one or more of the 24 spinal vertebrae, sacrum and/or illium (pelvis) leading to altered joint function, irritation, inflammation, and nerve root impingement causing interruption in vital nerve impulses from the spine to various body systems and the musculoskeletal system. If left uncorrected the mis-aligned joint “subluxation” can lead to degenerative joint and disc disease, bulging or herniated discs, stenosis and further nerve pinching. The pinching of the nerve and interruption in the vital nerve impulses can then lead to various forms of neuromusculoskeletal pain and dysfunction such as: headaches, neck and back pain, sciatica, hip pain, shoulder pain, weakness, atrophy and a myriad of other symptoms that can impair daily life. Causes of a spinal subluxation can include but are not limited to injuries (falls, sports, motor vehicle collisions, work, etc.) repetitive activities, stress, poor posture, poor sleeping habits, and even the birthing process.

Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy / Chiropractic Adjustment:

The Chiropractic Adjustment is the term for the procedure, performed by the Doctor of Chiropractic, for the purpose to correct the vertebral subluxation and/or body joint misalignment. The chiropractic adjustment as performed by Dr. Batson is a very specific procedure utilized to restore the biomechanical function of a joint, reduction of nerve impingement, reduction of pain and for the restoration of normal activities of daily living. Dr. Batson does NOT perform any JERKING, POPPING, or TWISTING procedures.

Dr. Batson, utilizing the Pierce RESULTS System™, identifies these subluxations and attempts to relieve the nerve impingement thus restoring proper nerve impulses/energy through precise and personalized treatment; Chiropractic Adjustment. Chiropractic was founded by Dr. Daniel David Palmer, who established Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, in 1897. Palmer College has been and continues to be the leading institution for chiropractic education and care. Dr. Batson completed his training at Palmer College in 1988.
